For Indian passport holders, the process of obtaining a Nepal Tourist Visa is relatively straightforward, as they do not require a visa for entry. However, when traveling to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu from any international airport in India, Indian citizens must present a valid Indian passport or Voter Identity Card (Indian Electoral Card). It’s essential to note that Aadhaar Card and Driving Licence are not accepted as valid documents for boarding flights to Kathmandu from Indian airports. Conversely, non-Indian passport holders can conveniently obtain a Nepal visa on arrival at Kathmandu International Airport. Alternatively, they also have the option to apply for the Nepal entry visa online, providing a time-saving alternative for a seamless entry process at the Kathmandu airport.

Chinese Group Travel Visa:

Obtaining a Chinese Group Travel Visa is a meticulous process, particularly for Indian passport holders. Regardless of their current residence or geographical location, Indians must submit their original passports to the China Embassy in New Delhi through the tour company that secured the necessary Tibet entry permit and invitations. The visa decision by the China Embassy in Delhi takes approximately 4-5 working days.

On the other hand, non-Indian passport holders, including NRIs with non-Indian passports, OCI card holders, and Green Card holders, need to undergo biometrics at the China Visa Center in Kathmandu. They are required to submit their China entry visa application along with the original passport, visa application documents, and recent colored photographs in a specified size and format. The China Embassy in Kathmandu takes about 3-4 working days to process and decide on such visas. This meticulous procedure ensures that travelers comply with the necessary requirements for a smooth and legal entry into Tibet.

Day 10 : 1st Day of Mt. Kailash kora (parikrama/circumambulation)

Early in the morning, we rise with the sun, grab a quick bite, and make our way to Tarboche, the starting point of our trek to Dirapuk Monastery. Before setting off on our journey (known as kora), pilgrims get the chance to pass through Yam Dwar.

Now, when it comes to trekking, we’ve got a mix of travel modes.

Trekking mode: Covering a total of 18 kilometers from Darchen to Dirapuk, the initial 6 kilometers are a breeze on a bus from Darchen to Tarboche. The remaining 12 kilometers to Dirapuk involve a trek, mostly flat with a dash of ups and downs. The high altitude adds a layer of challenge, typically taking pilgrims 4 to 6 hours to complete. A word of advice: slow and steady wins the race.

At Chuku Monastery – two paths unfold. The east route, the well-trodden pilgrimage trail, comes with a handy bridge over the Lha-Chu River. Opt for the west, and you’re dipping your toes (or taking your shoes off) to cross the river.

Hiring yaks and horse: For those who fancy a more leisurely journey, horses, yaks and porters are on standby at Tarboche. Your Tibetan guide will assists in direct payments, providing a name coupon for choosing your trusty horse and porter, who will be your companions throughout the trek. Bear in mind, though, the charges and availability of these four-legged companions are beyond our control, so no liability on that front.

Preparing for the trek, Don’t forget your snack stash (fruit, juice, energy bars, biscuits, and the like) for lunch, plus a refillable hot drink from the kitchen to keep you going.

As we reach Dirapuk, our Tibetan guide has a cozy guesthouse lined up in advance to beat the cold. With Mt. Kailash’s majestic North Face in plain view, Dirapuk offers an ideal spot for snapping memorable pictures and selfies. As the night chill sets in, a quick, light dinner of khichdi and soup awaits, and we retire to our beds, ready for another day of adventure on the morrow.

Meals included: Veg Breakfast, Packed Lunch/snacks, Light Dinner
Max. Elevation: 5210m
Distance Covered: 06 kms drive + 12 kms hiking
Accommodation Style: Lodge on sharing basis

Important notice: Participants within the group seeking alterations to their itinerary, particularly those opting out of the trekking portion, have the option to explore Yam Dwar instead. Following this visit, they can return to the Taklakot hotel. For added convenience, members desiring additional days in Darchen can communicate their requirements to the guide, arranging and directly covering the costs of extended hotel stays and any supplementary expenses incurred during their stay. This flexibility ensures a tailored experience for every participant, aligning with their preferences and comfort levels.

Optional trip from Darchen: For those seeking an additional spiritual dimension to their Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, an optional trip to Ashtapad from Darchen is available upon request. It’s important to note that this excursion entails a trek from Darchen to Ashtapad and back, as the Chinese authorities do not permit transport services in this area. The pilgrimage to Ashtapad is contingent upon obtaining permission from local authorities and involves direct payment to Tibetan Guides for the journey. This unique and spiritually significant side trip adds an extra layer of depth to the overall pilgrimage experience, allowing pilgrims to connect with the sacred landscape on a more personal level.

Visit Charan Sparsh from Dirapuk : Embark on a spiritually significant journey by visiting Charan Sparsh, a transformative experience nestled at an altitude of 5475m, just a 3 km trek from Dirapuk during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. This optional trek, not included in the standard package, provides pilgrims with the opportunity to seek the divine by touching the revered feet of Mt. Kailash, believed to embody Lord Shiva himself. The decision to undertake this challenging 2-hour trek depends on weather conditions and the guidance of the tour guide, adding an element of adventure to this sacred pilgrimage.

Day 11 : 2nd Day of Mt. Kailash kora (parikrama/circumambulation)

2Begin your day before the sun shine, and treat yourself to a breathtaking spectacle as the first light adorns the majestic Mt. Kailash, casting a spell of golden hues upon it. It’s a feast for the eyes, and you wouldn’t want to miss it. Grab your camera, snap up the mesmerizing view, and fuel up with a light breakfast because a thrilling adventure awaits as we embark on the trek towards Zuthulphuk.

Today marks the pinnacle of our journey, the ultimate challenge! Brace yourself for a traverse through the grassy landscapes of Jarok Donkhang and the eerie sky burial site, Shiva Tsal, standing tall at 5330 meters. The real kicker is the ascent to the highest point of our trek, the formidable ‘Dolma La Pass‘ at a staggering 5630 meters. Picture this – a 3-kilometer stretch of steep ups and downs, navigating through rocks and loose stones, which may even play a slippery trick on the daring trekkers. The reward: The breathtaking sight of Gauri Kund (Parvati Kund) awaits at the end of this rugged path.

Timing is everything; conquer the high pass while the weather is on your side, basking in the pleasant daytime conditions before the evening winds kick in. And just when you thought the challenges were over, the trek continues gradually after crossing Gauri Kund. So, pack your lunch, fill up your flask, and get ready for a day that promises both awe-inspiring beauty and a test of your trekking mettle. Happy trekking!
